NES Mini will resume production in 2018

September 13, 2017

Nintendo Japan and Nintendo Europe have announced via their Twitter accounts that the NES Mini will resume production in 2018.

The NES Mini was quite the popular item last year, with stock often selling out as quickly as it became available online. This of course led the system to being attractive to scalpers, who would resell units online for a handsome profit. At the time, Rocket Chainsaw featured an opinion piece criticising Nintendo’s inventory management.

Making matters worse, in April this year Nintendo announced that they would be discontinuing production of the system. Many thought this was due to the impending release of the SNES Mini, which was announced in June. It appears Nintendo have had a change of heart, likely due to the massive backlash they received from disappointed fans.

Nintendo America’s Reggie Fils-Aime also recently revealed the company would be ramping up production of the SNES Mini, even going as far to state “I would strongly urge you not to over-bid on an SNES Classic on any of the auction sites”. Apparently there will be frequent stock replenishes in the lead up to the Holiday season. The SNES Mini is due for release on 30 September in Australia.

No word yet if Australia will also be receiving new stock of the NES Mini.
