NES and SNES games to no longer be released monthly on Switch

September 6, 2019

Vooks.net has uncovered information on Nintendo Japan’s website that the Nintendo Switch will no longer receive monthly content updates for its NES and SNES games lineup. Instead, fans will need to be content with “irregular” updates.

Speaking with Nintendo, Vooks.net received confirmation that new games will continue to “be added after launch, but those releases will not adhere to a regular schedule”.

Since launching its Nintendo Switch Online service last year, Nintendo has offered subscribers a selection of NES games to play as part of the service. Initially only offering 20 NES games, Nintendo has consistently updated their offerings each month. At the time of writing, including the “SP” games, there are currently 63 NES titles in NA, PAL and KR territories. 20 SNES games were added to the service today, so already there is a substantial library that should keep fans occupied for quite some time.
