MTG Arena local championships return this May

ESU Australia, in partnership with Wizards of the Coast, are bringing local competitive Magic: The Gathering back to the ANZ region with  the return of the MTG Arena ESL ANZ Champs tournament this month.

Starting on May 7, with Season Finals taking place on 26 June, this Winter season has four open qualifiers, with the first on 7 and 8 May, the second on 21 and 22 May, the third on 4 and 5 June and the fourth on 18 and 19 June. Each qualifier will have up to seven rounds of Swiss Stage on Saturday, followed by a cut to the Top 8. The resulting Top 2 players at the end of a single elimination bracket on Sunday will qualify for the Season Finals.

There’s also a range of prizes to win for competitors. In each qualifier, 1st and 2nd place will win 1 x Set Booster Box, while 3rd and 4th places 1 x MTG Bundle. For the tournament itself, a total of AU $2,500 will be distributed to major placements, across:

  • 1st: $800 + 1 x Set Booster Box + 1 x Collector Box + 1 x Uncut Sheet of cards
  • 2nd: $600 + 1 x Collector Booster Box
  • 3rd: $400 + 1 x Set Booster Box
  • 4th: $300 + 1 x Set Booster Box
  • 5th – 8th: $100 + 1 x Set Booster Box
  • 9th – 16th: 1 x MTG Bundle
  • 17th – 32nd: 3 x Set Boosters
