MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries announced

December 4, 2016

The Mechwarrior franchise was one of the big names of 1990s PC gaming, but it’s been over fifteen years since the last major title in the series, and while there has been a free-to-play online version available for a while now, it hasn’t exactly set the world on fire.

Now, however, a new entry in the main series is on the way. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries was announced at Mech_Con, an annual convention for MechWarrior and the wider BattleTech franchise it’s a part of. The new game is being developed by Piranha Games (who also make MechWarrior Online) and is expected to be released in 2018.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is built around the Unreal engine and you can watch just over seven minutes of pre-alpha footage for it right here:
