Mass Effect Is Finally Coming Back

December 13, 2020

There are few series of games that I love as much as Mass Effect. The original space-opera RPG trilogy landed at a time where I finally had the money to begin expanding my gaming horizons and I latched onto them with fervour. Day long gaming sessions, culminating in a complete play-through of Mass Effect 3 in the space of a weekend, filled the years as I gradually went back to the games again and again. After the disappointing release of Mass Effect Andromeda,  which has seemingly killed the franchise, BioWare has confirmed that Mass Effect is finally coming back.

We don’t have many details when it comes to the latest iteration of the series, but a teaser trailer at The Game Awards gave us some smatterings of information to investigate. We saw both the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies, with director Mike Gamble pointing out that this was very deliberate. An Astro climbed a snowy mountain, finding a remnant of someone’s armour with the N7 logo on it. Could it have something to do with Shepard? Finally, the camera pans around on the Asari’s face, with her looking very much like Liara. Given the Asari can live for over a thousand years this could point to a near future jump forwards on the original Mass Effect trilogy.

At the end of the day we’re still years away from the release of a game, but it’s comforting knowing that Mass Effect isn’t dead. Take a gander over at the BioWare Blog for a little more information while you wait for both this game and the Legendary Collection.
