Marvels Avengers’ Ms Marvel Revealed As Playable Character

With Black Widow, Thor, Iron Man, The Hulk and Captain America revealed as playable characters at the original gameplay reveal at E3 2019, today at none other than New York Comic Con 2019 we got to see the unveiling of Marvels Avengers‘ Ms Marvel as a playable character. Kamala Khan was just a simple teenager from New Jersey until the events of the Inhumanity storyline gave her superhero powers.

Crystal Dynamics has kept most of the game under wraps, but with just seven months until Marvel’s Avengers launches, we are expecting more playable characters to be periodically announced. Other superheroes already revealed through one way or another include Hawkeye and Ant-Man, and we can expect there to be many more revealed in the final product and via post-launch DLC.

An optimistic fan girl of the Avengers, Kamala Khan is the perfect character for the story we’re telling in Marvel’s Avengers,” said Shaun Escayg, Creative Director and Writer at Crystal Dynamics. “Telling our story of Kamala’s coming-of-age brings a fresh, hopeful perspective to the gameplay experience and her unique abilities as Ms. Marvel make her a character every person can relate to and will want to play. Kamala Khan is one of the unique characters that makes our game stand apart from any Avengers story experienced before.

Kamala is an inspired and perfectly fitting choice to join the ranks of, and reassemble, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” said Bill Rosemann, VP of Creative at Marvel Games. “Perhaps more than any other character invented over the past decade, Ms. Marvel has not only charmed the hearts of long-time True Believers, but her unique mix of classic Marvel heroic elements and modern cultural relevancy has resulted in a headline-generating cultural icon.

Marvel’s Avengers was properly introduced to the world at E3 2019, while Gamescom 2019 saw the first official gameplay footage. The game has received some criticism for appearing to have fairly basic hack and slash mechanics, though this new trailer shows a different style of gameplay which should please Marvel fans around the world.

The core Marvel Avengers’ roster rounds out with the addition of viewpoint character Kamala Khan! The beloved teenager who defends Jersey City as Ms. Marvel joins Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, The Hulk, and Captain America in an original Avengers story told by Crystal Dynamics.

The Avengers’ absence following A-Day had devastating consequences worldwide, including a new, enigmatic organization coming to power – Advanced Idea Mechanics, also known as AIM. With the Avengers disbanded and AIM turning public sentiment against Super Heroes, Kamala hides her budding abilities from the world. After uncovering a shocking conspiracy, Kamala must learn to embrace her powers in order to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

It is a thrill to see Kamala in the Marvel’s Avengers game,” said Sana Amanat, VP of Content and Character Development at Marvel. “Crystal Dynamics has done a marvellous job of crafting a brand-new take on Kamala, while staying true to the spirit of her inspiring character, charismatic persona, and relatable purpose. Fans of the character are in for quite a ride, along with a few surprises, when Marvel’s Avengers makes its debut next year.

I think Kamala is a perfect fit for a game like this, since she sees the Marvel world the same way we do as fans and players,” said G. Willow Wilson, co-creator of Ms. Marvel. “Kamala allows us to imagine what we ourselves would do if we suddenly discovered we had superpowers and got to stand alongside our heroes in their time of greatest need.

The Marvel’s Avengers release date is May 15, 2020 and it will launch simultaneously on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Google Stadia. For more information, head to the official Marvel’s Avengers game website.
