2K Games has confirmed via Twitter that Mafia 3 is in development. No platforms were announced, however, 2K Games did promise a full reveal trailer would be released on August 5th. This date happens to coincide with the beginning of Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

The previous game in the franchise, Mafia 2, was released in 2010 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It was praised by critics and fans alike for its strong story that followed the hijinks of Vito Scaletta who worked his way up from being a poor Sicilian immigrant to a made man of the mob. Rumours of a sequel have been appearing online for years, so its good to finally get official word that Mafia 3 is on the way.
