Here’s Everything You Need To Know For The Aussie Xbox Series S|X Launch

September 10, 2020

With Xbox finally lifting the lid on the Xbox Series S and  X, it’s finally truly beginning to feel like the next console generation is upon us. While we know a hell of a lot more now than we did even a couple of days ago, the information released by Xbox has come in sporadic fits and bursts, with no one singular piece of news containing all of the details. So, we’ve pulled together all of the release details for the Xbox Series S and X into one singular article for you.

Price

We’ve now got official confirmation from Xbox Australia & New Zealand that the Xbox Series S will retail for $499 AUD and X will retail for $750 AUD. Given the relative weakness of the Australian dollar compared to when the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launched back in 2013, these are actually pretty good prices, with the X being particularly great.

Release Date

Both the Xbox Series S and X will release on Tuesday November 10th. This coincides with the week of the original Xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved’s 19th anniversary, providing a nice little bit of history to the date.

Preorder Date

Unlike the past where preorders have just sporadically appeared out of nowhere from retailers, Xbox have provided a specific date for when preorders begin. You’ll be able to preorder your Xbox Series S and/or X on Tuesday September 22nd, with no details given on which retailers will have preorders just yet.

Xbox All Access

You may have already heard of Xbox All Access before, the contract-based service that Xbox have run in Australia with Telstra in the past. Xbox have confirmed that Xbox All Access will continue with the Xbox Series S and X, with prices starting at $33 per month for 24 months for a Series S and 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Checking Telstra All Access from my Telstra phone, we don’t have a price for the Xbox Series X yet but expect it to be around the $45 mark per month.

Launch Games

There aren’t many games specifically announced for the November 10th release date of the Xbox Series S and X yet, but we do have a few that have been confirmed for the day. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Yakuza: Like A Dragon have both had their release dates brought forward from later in November to hit launch, while Gears Tactics, Watch Dogs: Legion and Tetris Effect: Connected have both been confirmed to release on the same day as the consoles.

System Specs

We now have full confirmation of the system specs for both the Xbox Series S and X. The Series S can be thought of as this generation’s Xbox 360 Arcade, coming in with lower specs across the CPU, RAM, GPU and SSD, but still providing a next-gen experience at 1440p resolutions instead of 4k. You can check out the handy tech spec sheet below from Xbox that shows off all the different specs of the consoles.

And there we have it, everything that we know about the Xbox Series S And X so far. We finally have our price, our release date, our preorder date, our full spec lists and even have a few games confirmed for launch day. Expect some more news to pop up over the coming month or so, as more games get announced for launch, so stay tuned to Rocket Chainsaw!
