Grand Theft Auto V Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X

June 14, 2020

There’s no denying that Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most successful games of all time. As of Take Two’s most recent earnings call it was confirmed that the game has sold more than 130 million copies since the original Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release all the way back in 2013. Since then we’ve seen the release of PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports, as well as the unfettered success of GTA Online as well. Of course, with a new generation comes new opportunitieswith Grand Theft Auto V announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X during Friday morning’s PlayStation 5 games showcase (you can check out our summary of that event here).

Details are still scarce on just what the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Grand Theft Auto V will entail, but we were given some small tip offs on what to expect. We know that the game will feature ‘technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements’, which makes sense given the significantly higher power of the next generation consoles, but we don’t know if there will be any content additions to the single player portion game. However, we do know that GTA Online will be updated with brand new content exclusive to the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X version of the game. Along with this additional content, GTA Online will also become available as a standalone game in the second half of 2021, which will be available for free exclusively for PlayStation 5 owners for the first three months.

Grand Theft Auto V will release for PS5 and Xbox Series X in the second half of 2021, so stay tuned to Rocket Chainsaw as more information becomes available, and check out the trailer below in the meantime.
