Melbourne and Sydney – two great cities that can’t quite seem to escape trying to one-up each other. Which is weird, since Melbourne is actually far superior. Nevertheless, longtime rival teams, the Sydney Chiefs and Melbourne Avant, are the first two clubs to join the Gfinity Australia Elite Series. The new competition, which covers several games including Counterstrike: GO, Rocket League, and Street Fighter V, will eventually feature six city-based teams.

Gfinity Australia CEO Dominic Remond is pleased to inject the classic Sydney/Melbourne rivalry to the league, “A weekend fixture where Sydney plays Melbourne is a part of our national sporting fabric, and we’re proud to welcome Australia’s two newest clubs to Gfinity Elite Series Australia, presented by Alienware”

Teams in the Gfinity Australia Elite Series, presented by Alienware, will compete for a share in a record prize pool of AU $450,000, broadcast weekly from a televised arena in Sydney in front of a live audience when it launches later this year. For more information, check out the official website.
