May 23, 2018

Today, Gfinity Esports Australia announced that 56 amateur players have been drafted into the league, through the various city-based teams who will be competing when the ‘Gfinity Elite Series Australia’ season begins on 2 June in Sydney.

It’s the first time in Australia that players have been drafted into a national league, with Sydney Roar, Sydney Chiefs, Melbourne Avant, Melbourne Order, Brisbane Deceptors and Perth Ground Zero all taking in talent. In fact, more than 90% of players who entered were selected to compete – 56 out of the total 61.

One of the draftees, Dominic ‘Doom’ Wilson has joined the Sydney Chiefs, is also a full-time carer for his mother. Wilson grew up playing video games with his parents and sister, saying “My folks are going to be in the crowd. That’s the dream right? Having your family among the supporters to cheer you on.”
“Aussies love a good underdog story and the Challenger series has allowed plenty of these dark horse players to rise through the ranks and make a name for themselves.” said Dominic Remond, Gfinity Esports Australia CEO, “Traditional sports such as cricket have always fostered young and amateur players as a way of scouting future talent, and we feel this model translates perfectly to esports.”

Touted as the ‘Big Bash League’ of esports, the Gfinity Elite Series Australia kicks of on 2 June. For more information, head to  www.gfinityesports.com.au
