Gearbox not working on Borderlands 3

February 15, 2014

Borderlands 2 has proven to be a veritable fountain of content and expansions, with Gearbox offering support for the game well after most games would have been considered finished by their developers.

In a chat with Polygon’s Brian Crecente, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford said “We are not working on Borderlands 3. That is unqualified.” He went on to say that they’re not done with Borderlands, but that, right now, the company has other projects to focus on. The games currently being worked on are the PS Vita version of Borderlands 2 and the Telltale series Tales of Borderlands.

The main reason is because of Gearbox’s busy schedule. Current projects include the upcoming Furious Four, a new Brothers in Arms title, two as-yet unannounced IPs, and remastered versions of the original Homeworld titles, as well as a new entry in that series.

In the interview, Pitchford also discusses the origins of Furious Four, as well as current progress on the Homeworld titles. He also gets in a dig at Valve, saying he’d rather not mess fans about with the potential of an upcoming third title in the Borderlands series.
