Game Lens is a game photography feature. I hack, mod, tweak, and stress games (and myself) to not only make them as beautiful as possible; but to explore their environments free of HUD, overlays, and physical confinements; and take interesting, high-resolution screenshots.
Just Cause 2
Boasting one of the biggest and most expansive environments in gaming, featuring lush landscapes, snowy mountains, and desert wastelands, Just Cause 2 is a gaming photo-tourist’s dream. Kitted out with the Camhack mod by Philpax, I took to exploring every inch of the island of Panau without the main character needing to come along for the ride. What I found was such a great attention to detail everywhere I went, much more than you would notice when confined to rotating the camera around a set point. It’s a shame the story of Just Cause 2, while not to be taken seriously, doesn’t compliment it’s varied environment.
Thanks to the Camhack mod, Just Cause 2 became an example of what I love about my little sub-hobby of gaming; a disembodied exploration of a beautiful, open area, where it’s difficult to really take a bad shot that doesn’t show the art of the game that designers worked hard to achieve. Flying around, soaking in the visuals, and enjoying an environment that was created from nothing while trying to document my travels through screenshots. While Just Cause 2 is not a prime example of technical achievement even though it’s less than 3 years old, it’s still very pretty indeed.
