Magic: The Gathering has long had a highly competitive player scene, with heaps of tournaments and the like occurring across the world. With new digital frontiers really hitting the forefront over the last year, Magic: The Gathering Arena has quickly become a go-to for players who want the MtG experience without having to physically see people. Now, the first two seasons of the Magic: The Gathering Arena ESL ANZ Champs have been announced.
The Magic: The Gathering Arena ESL ANZ Champs will kick off with a casual education cup on August 1, built to introduce players to the systems and platform the ESL use, before progressing into regular open tournaments leading up to the Champion Stage. The full dates are listed below:
- Event 1 Open Qualifier – 7 August
- Event 1 Top 8 – 8 August
- Event 2 Open Qualifier – 21 August
- Event 2 Top 8 – 22 August
- Event 3 Open Qualifier – 4 September
- Event 3 Top 8 – 5 September
- Event 4 Open Qualifier – 18 September
- Event 4 Top 8 – 19 September
- Champion Stage – 26 September
Each Open Qualifier will have up to seven rounds, followed by a cut to a Top 8 who will compete the next day. Players will earn points from all of these stages, and players with the most points at the end of each stage will earn a spot in the Champion Stage.
All of the Top 8 and Champsion Stage events will be broadcast on the ESL Australia Twitch channel and official Magic Twitch channel, and players interested in signing up to compete and play to win the prizes below can do so now via the ESL play platform here.

- 3rd – $400 AUD + 5,000 Gems, 1 x Set Booster Box
- 4th – $300 AUD + 5,000 Gems, 1 x Set Booster Box
- 5-8th – $100 AUD + 5,000 Gems, 1 x Set Booster Box
- 9-16th – 3,000 Gems, 1 x MTG Bundle
- 17th-24th – 1,500 Gems, 3 x Set Boosters
- 25th-32nd – 1,000 Gems, 3 x Set Boosters
