Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade Of Light Finally Gets English Release

October 23, 2020

For those that have followed the Fire Emblem series through the years, you likely know all about the rocky history it’s had. From a myriad of early titles not releasing outside of Japan to being on its deathbed before the massive success of Fire Emblem Awakening, fans of the series have had plenty to worry about over the years. Now, we’re finally getting an English release of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade Of Light.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light is the first entry in the series and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. In celebration, Nintendo have ported the game over to Switch and localised the game into English, fulfilling many a Fire Emblem fan’s (which we squarely consider ourselves to be after Fire Emblem: Three Houses was crowned our game of the year for 2019) dreams.

Alongside a super cheap digital release, which comes in at $9, Nintendo are also releasing a special limited edition physical package as well. Still containing a download code as opposed to a cart, the Fire Emblem 30th Anniversary Edition is exclusive to EB Games and comes in at $89.95. For that money you’ll also receive a 222 page hardcover art book, a replica NES game box, a NES cartridge art piece, an instruction manual, map and a retro Nintendo Power mini collectible.

If an English release of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light sounds appealing to you, get ready to play it on Nintendo Switch December 4th. Make sure you don’t delay too much though, because much like Super Mario 3D All-Stars Nintendo will once again be exploiting your FOMO by advising the game will only be available for an indeterminate ‘limited time’.
