E3 2021: Advance Wars Is Finally Back In Re-Boot Camp

Re-Boot Camp

There are plenty of Nintendo franchises that have been abandoned over the years, but few smart quite as much as Advance Wars. The games were unique and incredibly fun strategy games, and their complete disappearance from the gaming landscape was a massive bummer. Now, finally, the franchise is back with Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp.

Click here for all the announcements in this morning’s Nintendo Direct.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is exactly what you might guess from the title, a remake comprising the campaigns of both Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. The original two games of the franchise, these were also probably the most memorable ones and also the ones most in need of touch ups. Both games are now presented with a brand new visual style, including 3D unit models in battles and a much cleaner style for character portraits. There are some questions over whether the new visuals look a bit worse artistically than the original games, but that will largely be up to people’s personal preferences. This remake has been confirmed to be in development at Wayforward Games, so this is another example of Nintendo allowing a smaller third party developer the opportunity to remake one of their earlier games.

Advance Wars 1+2: re-Boot Camp releases exclusively for Nintendo Switch on December 3. For more information, check the official website.
