Square-Enix’s E3 Showcase was surprisingly short and light on details for games many expected to show up – sorry Final Fantasy fans, but there was nary a whiff of Final Fantasy 7 Remake or any other potential sequels, or even the upcoming content for Final Fantasy XV.
However, Square-Enix did have some interesting completely original games to announce, including The Quiet Man and Babylon’s Fall. A couple of Square-Enix’s larger releases, like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Just Cause 4 also received more detail and gameplay demonstrations.
Here’s the full wrap-up
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider will feature Lara “becoming one with the jungle” with a focus on stealth action, as a gameplay reveal showed
- The Ivalice expansion from Final Fantasy XIV was briefly shown off with some nostalgic gameplay and music from Final Fantasy XII
- More interestingly, a collaboration is planned between Final Fantasy XIV and Capcom’s Monster Hunter World although details are scarce
- The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit was briefly shown off, with developers DONTNOD commenting that this free game will not be Life is Strange 2, but will contain links to some of the characters from that upcoming game.
- An extended Kingdom Hearts III trailer showed much of what we’d already seen in the Xbox E3 Press Conference, but with a glimpse of Remi from Ratatouille as well – neat!
- A new game from PlatinumGames was teased, called Babylon’s Fall
- There was a new trailer for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
- A Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy Brave Exvius crossover event is apparently being planned
- A new Octopath Traveler trailer showed off the game, coming soon on 13 July
- Nier Automata Become as Gods Edition was briefly shown, it’s the Xbox One edition coming 26 June, with enhancements for Xbox One X
- Just Cause 4‘s new gameplay mechanics including extreme weather, vehicles and the new Grappler were detailed
- The mysterious The Quiet Man was announced, with a trailer combining live action footage and gameplay
