E3 2018: Just Cause 4 detailed at Square-Enix’s E3 Showcase

June 12, 2018

After its initial “reveal” at the Xbox E3 2018 Press Conference, Square-Enix were able to expand on the game during their online streamed showcase, with some pretty cool new details about the open-world secret-agent-with-a-grapple-gun simulator.

Just Cause 4 takes place in Solis, the ‘largest and most breathtaking world yet’ for the series, which features everything from modern cities and military to outposts and even scenic Mayan ruins. In this instalment, Rico takes on the fictional bad guy organisation, the Black Hand, and he has the weather on his side, as new hazards such as tornadoes, hurricanes and sandstorms can pop up on the map and present both a challenge to him to overcome, and new opportunities for him to exploit. Tornadoes, for instance, are powerful enough to uproot trees and destroy bridges, which could be seen in the gameplay demoed during the stream.

Vehicles have been overhauled with new options including jetskis and micro-jets, and the grappler has been upgraded to be fully customisation. With more tethers than ever before, and the ability to deploy booster jets, Rico can send cars flying into the sky gracefully like never before.

Just Cause 4 will be powered by the Open World Apex engine, and is expected to hit store shelves on 4 December this year.
