Dragon Quest’s Hero joins Smash Bros. Ultimate line-up, 4.0 title update released

August 1, 2019

Yesterday Nintendo released the 4.0 title update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The update includes a number of new features for the game, including a time limit for the Final Smash Meter, a new Very Easy difficulty for Adventure Mode, a Predict-a-Winner option when spectating matches, new video editing features and an online tournament mode.

Alongside the update is the release of the third DLC fighter (or Challenger Pack #2 since Piranha Plant is not part of the Fighters Pass), Dragon Quest’s Hero. Hero comes with a new level dubbed Ydddrasil’s Altar, which features 8 new music tracks. You can check out a recent presentation by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai below where he shows off the new character and stage.

Also released alongside Hero are new Dragon Quest themed Mii Fighter costumes. These are available separately for purchase. We have included a video showcasing the new costumes below as well.

The next fighter to be released for Ultimate will be Banjo-Kazooie, due out in Q3 2019. It’s expected two more DLC fighters will join the playable roster by March 2020, though their identities have been kept a secret for now.
