The Division Update 1.8 Adds New Map

September 5, 2017

If there’s one thing The Division has been missing since launch, it’s been new open-world exploration areas. Now Ubisoft has just unveiled The Division update 1.8, a free update which includes an array of changes and new content to keep you in New York City.

Most notably in The Division Update 1.8 is the new Resistance mode, which is a new PvE mode that pits players against waves of enemies, a very popular multiplayer mode in other online games.

The update will also include a new PvP mode called Skirmish, which sounds like a pretty basic 4v4 timed multiplayer mode where your kills will only count if you’re successfully able to finish off your enemy.

The new map, called West Side Pier will be spread out amongst two zones and include new events which begin every 15 to 20 minutes. The update at this point sounds like Ubisoft’s answer to Destiny 2, with the similarities being quite stark.

Only time will tell whether fans stay loyal and/or return to The Division with its latest update, but given that it’s free there’s no reason not to check it out, especially if you’ve already reached the end-game content.

No release date is yet to be announced, but we expect that The Division Update 1.8 is not too far away. Rocket Chainsaw reviewed The Division at launch giving it 4.5/5 stars, and saying “Massive truly have learned from their time on the sidelines, making sure to avoid many mistakes made by Bungie during the 1.5 years of Destiny and building what is a great experience.”

The Division is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, and these days you can usually find the Gold version of the game which includes the season pass for less than $50AUD.
