Battlefield 2042 Season 1: Zero Hour arrives June 9

June 8, 2022

Battlefield 2042 is finally getting its Season 1 update, and it’s much sooner than you may think, launching on 9 June, 2022 across all platforms. The update has been long awaited by Battlefield players, as while our initial impressions of Battlefield 2042 were positive, many ran into issues with the gameplay, balance and performance of the launch version of the game, which has no doubt posed an issue for EA’s lofty ambitions for the title.

Season 1, titled ‘Zero Hour’, aims to add content to win back fans. At a preview event for media, Senior Producer Ryan Macarthur made it clear that the focus for 2042 going forward will be to continue to work on the issues at launch, while improving on the game in several key areas using behaviours observed in-game through updates, addressing issues like fixes to core gameplay, unshackling 2042 from 128-players and visual and audio adjustments to specialists. Some maps, such as Kaleidoscope in August, will receive an update with revamped cover and terrain, as well as plenty of new assets which benefit from increased destructability.  The goal is to show players “what was always intended”, “what 2042 is supposed to be” and “the way Battlefield should be played.”

In terms of new content, Season 1: Zero Hour contains:

  • New Map – Exposure – Based on the Canadian Rockies, presenting an extreme vertical terrain.
  • New Specialist – Ewelina Lis – A vehicle killer expert, with a rocket launcher and ‘Armor Hunter’ trait, used to get intel on damaged vehicles.
  • New Vehicles – Stealth Helicopters – the RAH-68 Huron and YG-99 Hannibal Gunships
  • New Weapon – Ghostmaker R10 Crossbow – quiet but deadly.
  • New Gadget – Smoke Grenade Launcher
  • New Additions to Portal – new features to the various gameplay styles, as well as a new Builder toolset for Superiority mode
  • New Battle Pass – 100 tiers of Season 1 Battle Pass content to unlock Free and Premium content. Free tiers give access to Weapons, Vehicles, Cosmetics and more. Premium tiers unlock Skins, BFC, Player Cards, Weapon Charms, Takedowns and more.

The Premium version of the Battle Pass will cost 1000 BFC.

Battlefield: Season 1: Zero Hour will launch on 9 June on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
