An enhanced version of Quake is out now for just about everything

August 20, 2021

Announced during QuakeCon at Home, a new version of the original Quake has been released today for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass for console and PC, PS4, Switch, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatiblity. Native Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions will be available soon as a free upgrade, introducing native 4K support at 120FPS.

Quake, of course, alongside its sequel Quake II were pretty revolutionary during the 90’s for advancing the FPS genre, seen as the next step in the genre’s evolution after Doom, and also developed by the same team at id Software. This re-release basically adds a little extra polish to the original game with widescreen support and smoother visuals, but otherwise looks and sounds basically how you remember it, while also including the expansion packs ‘The Scourge of Armagon’ and ‘Dissolution of Eternity, as well as MachineGames’ ‘Dimension of the Past’ and an all-new expansion called ‘Dimension of the Machine’.
