New Games This Week! – Rocket Chainsaw

New Games This Week! is a new weekly thing — *throws confetti* — where every Monday morning I’ll be posting a quick little lowdown on the most notable upcoming video game releases for the week following in the Australian market, and any relevant information about different versions between retailers.

Alien Isolation.

October 7th 2014  — MA15+ — Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC.

This is what we’ve all been waiting for; something to wash our hands clean of Colonial Marines. With our sweat. And tears. Mostly tears.

Set 15 years after the events in the first Alien film, you play as Amanda Ripley (Ellen Ripley’s daughter) on a mission to find out exactly what happened to her mother. This first-person survival horror stealth game is set on the Sevastopol space station with just yourself and one Alien. Just one.

There are two editions available in Australia — the Nostromo Edition (available at all retailers), and the Ripley Edition (exclusive to EB Games). The Nostromo Edition includes Crew Expendable – content containing the original crew from the movie aboard the Nostromo, playing as either Dallas, Parker or Ellen Ripley herself.  The Ripley Edition contains a mini artbook, steelbook case, the Crew Expendable and Last Survivor — playing through the last mission aboard the Nostromo as Ellen.

NAtURAL DOCtRINE.

October 8th 2014 — M — PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, Playstation 4.

Bring it.

Bring it.

For those who enjoy raging and dedicating an unhealthy amount of hours towards a title, NAtURAL DOCtRINE is the game for you. This strategic-RPG is based in a world where you must prove your worth in order to survive — however, if any of your characters die, you must start all over again. Better get another swear jar.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

October 8th 2014 — MA15+ — Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are due November 26th 2014).

Precision.

Precision.

Taking place in the gap between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, you play a ranger by the name of Talion, who keeps watch over Mordor. Suddenly everything you have is taken from you by Sauron’s Uruk forces, and you become merged with a wraith by the name of Celebrimbor, and you set out for vengeance against those who took your world from you.

Think of it as Taken in the LotR universe.

Both EB Games and JB Hi-Fi are offering The Dark Ranger DLC pack which includes a new playable character skin, and the Test of Power challenge mode. JB also has an exclusive art cover for the game, with EB offering their Special Edition containing a steel case, three in-game runes and a character skin.

DRIVECLUB.

October 8th 2014 — G — PlayStation 4.

Serious driving face.

Serious driving face.

Designed by the team behind MotorStorm, DRIVECLUB is Sony’s take on everything racing outside of Gran Turismo. With a huge focus and push for multiplayer, DRIVECLUB aims to put the fun back into racing games, because apparently someone took that out a long time ago. The concept behind the game is to either join or create a club of 12 drivers (hopefully your friends!) and compete challenges together to increase your club fame and success. Real world environments and tracks were used as inspiration the locations and tracks in the game.

JB HiFi is offering a bonus steelbook and 3 digital packs — the Mercedes SLS AMG Coupe Black Series Pack, the McLaren 12C Pack and the RuF Rt12 Pack, while EB Games has their Special Edition containing 2 DRIVECLUB vinyl stickers, 2 exclusive in-game livery packs to customise your car, instant access to 5 high performance cars, and foil treated unique artwork housed in a high-quality card sleeve. I think that means it has a pretty case.

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition.

October 9th — MA15+ — Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC.

True Crime Hong Kong

True Crime Hong Kong.

The Definitive Edition of Sleeping Dogs is a reworked, rebuilt and re-mastered version of the game for the current generation of consoles. Included is all previously released content and lots of new game improvements. If you’re after an oriental version of Grand Theft Auto – look no further.

NBA 2k15.

October 9th — G — Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC.

The latest AND greatest installment in the NBA 2K series is here and once again it features my boy Kevin Durant from OKC Thunder on the front cover (I love you KD).

Additions for 2K15 include approximately 5000 new animations, improved gameplay meaning better shooting systems, more control over rebounds and steals, new game hosts Ernie Johnson and Shaq delivering authentic commentary and player analysis, and improvements on each individual action taken by the player affecting the player’s career. It’d be perfect if they added updates for whenever a new video of Shaqtin’ A Fool was uploaded.
