Australian games retailer Dungeon Crawl enters voluntary administration

December 22, 2015

Rocket Chainsaw has learned that Australian online video games retailer Dungeon Crawl has entered voluntary administration, with trading expected to close by Christmas.

At the end of last week, the company slashed prices on many titles, with games like Call of Duty: Black Ops III  and FIFA 16  on current-gen consoles reduced to $37.43. By Sunday, prices had been cut by 50% storewide for what stock was left. Administrators were appointed on 4 December, and it is unclear what future lies ahead for Dungeon Crawl at this stage.

Two years ago, Dungeon Crawl closed its doors at its Melbourne location, as one of the last independent games stores in the state. Since then, it has operated exclusively online and over eBay. Sources have told Rocket Chainsaw that this year has been difficult for Dungeon Crawl, and its sister sites, but staff have still been caught by surprise. The Dungeon Crawl brand may yet live on, although in what form or with what staff behind it is as of yet uncertain. We are told all orders placed with the site have been shipped, and staff will be finishing up this week.

In the past, Rocket Chainsaw has written about Dungeon Crawl and worked with them on giveaways on the site. It’s a sad day when a local business, especially in the games industry, has to close up shop, and we’d like to extend our best wishes to the Dungeon Crawl team.
