Yooka-Laylee Releases On April 11, Switch Version Coming

December 14, 2016

Playtonic Games have announced that the long-awaited spirtiual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee, will be releasing both digitally and at retail on April 11th, 2017, with Kickstarter backers being given the option to upgrade their pledge to a physical copy in the near future. Currently, it has been confirmed that the PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions will release on that date, with some bad and good news for Nintendo fans.

First, the bad news. After encountering technical difficulties that could not be rectified, Playtonic have announced that the Nintendo WiiU version of Yooka-Laylee has had to be cancelled. The good news, is that they are now working closely with Nintendo to instead bring the game to the Nintendo Switch. They haven’t confirmed details on when the Nintendo Switch version will release, but did advise that WiiU backers will have the option to change their requested copy to any of the other platforms of their choice. There is no confirmation on when we can expect the Nintendo Switch version to release, although it would be logical to expect more information at some point after Nintendo’s January 14th Nintendo Switch presentation.

Digital preorders have now opened, with the PC version priced at $39.99 USD on Steam, the PS4 version priced at $47.95 AUD and the Xbox One version priced at $49.95 AUD. All preorders come with immediate access to the Yooka-Laylee Toybox, a sandbox demo that lets you try out Yooka-Laylee’s mechanics without spoiling any parts of the actual game.

Finally, along with all of this new information, Playtonic Games have released a brand new trailer for Yooka-Laylee showing off a brand new area in the game – the Capital Cashino. So give that a watch while you wait for its release on April 11 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
