January 20, 2017

Team17 and Playtonic Games have revealed via a press release that Yooka-Laylee will feature local multiplayer arcade games and co-op play in the main campaign.

There will be 8 unique arcade games in total, which can be found in Rextro’s Arcade. Players will need to collect special play coins in Yooka-Laylee‘s single player campaign to power up the arcade cabinets, and can then play the games for the chance to win some pagies. Some of the arcade games include Glaciators where players compete in a brawler arena to collect the most quills, Kartos Karting which is a racing game, Blag the Flag where you fight for the flag, and a shoot-em-up called Gun-let Run. All games will be playable solo, include online leaderboards and support up to four-player local multiplayer.

Also revealed was that the main campaign will feature co-op play for two players. A second player can connect to the game and take control of the Bee Team. The Bee Team acts as a support unit for the main protagonists, helping Yooka and Laylee collect quills and storing butterflies for when the pair are lacking health and energy. Bee Team can apparently stop some traps, assisting players who may have difficulty getting past certain areas.

Yooka-Laylee is due out on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch on April 11.
