Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection hits stores on 7 October

July 17, 2015

While fans were hoping that an Uncharted 4 release was nigh, E3 confirmed that the latest adventure featuring Nathan Drake will not be out until 2016. In the meantime, as has fast become the trend on home consoles over the last five years, a collection of Drake’s greatest adventures (and Uncharted 3) is on the way for PS4 this year to keep fans satiated.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection contains the PS3 games Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, all updated to run on PS3 at 1080p and aiming at running at 60fps. At a preview event this week, I had a very short preview of the upgrade, specifically a ‘Warzone’ section of Uncharted 2. This action-heavy segment features, as fans many remember, a chase through the rooftops as Drake deals with bad guys, a helicopter, and collapsing buildings. The visuals definitely were crisp, and the framerate held up at what seemed to be a steady 60fps, even during the climactic moment when the floor starts to crumble beneath you as the office Drake is in crashes into the adjacent tower.

In terms of gameplay, nothing has changed, and the original controls have been retained from the PS3 release, despite minor changes in the PS4 controller. The multiplayer for each game will not be featured, however, in this collection – instead a beta for Uncharted 4 is included to get a taste of what’s to come next year (while ‘it lasts’ store pages note).

Look for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection in just a few months time exclusively on PS4 on 7 October, 2015.
