Super Smash Bros. Presentation Wrap-up

December 16, 2015

This morning Nintendo streamed a brand new Super Smash Bros. Presentation. Hosted by legendary Director, Masahiro Sakurai, the presentation was sadly the final one for Super Smash Bros. Wii U/ 3DS and revealed the last upcoming DLC releases.

The presentation began by revealing that Corrin from the yet to be released Fire Emblem Fates will be a new DLC fighter. After a short trailer was shown, Sakurai introduced the fighter. Corrin will have both male and female skins which will control exactly the same, similar to Wii Fit Trainer and Robin. Corrin’s weapon is the Omega Yato, which lets him turn into a dragon for his Final Smash and also transform specific body parts for regular moves. Corrin will not be released with a new stage, but instead will come with two new music tracks for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. The DLC is expected to be released in February 2016 and will cost AU$7.80 to unlock in both Wii U and 3DS versions, or AU$6.50 separately.

Not to be forgotten, the previously announced Cloud DLC was shown. Sakurai explained fans had requested several Final Fantasy characters to join the roster, with Cloud being the most popular. Cloud has a Limit Gauge ability which works similar to Little Mac’s K.O. Gauge. Whenever Cloud receives or gives damage the gauge will slowly fill. When it’s full Cloud will have a blue aura around him and his attacks will do more damage. The Cloud DLC was released on the e-Shop immediately after the presentation at the cost of AU$9.10 for the 3DS/Wii U bundle and AU$7.80 separately. It comes bundled with a new Midgard stage which features summons that wreak havoc on the field.

The last round of Mii FIghter costumes was shown off. These included Ashley from WarioWare, Tails and Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog and, interestingly, a costume based on Geno from Super Mario RPG. The Super Smash Bros. website will also have QR codes to help players create Miis that have facial features similar to the costume-only characters. For example, the QR code for the Splatoon Inklings make them have thick dark circles around their eyes.

Last but not least, Sakurai revealed the highest requested character from the Super Smash Bros. ballot was none other than Bayonetta. The sexy Umbra Witch will be released as DLC in February 2016 at a cost of AU$9.10 for both 3DS and Wii U or AU$7.80 separately. She will feature many of her famous moves including using four guns, wicked weave attacks and her Final Smash, Climax. There will be skins based on her appearance in both the original Bayonetta and its Wii U-exclusive sequel.
