Shovel Knight announced for Switch, receives name change

January 12, 2017

Yacht Club Games has announced Shovel Knight will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

While the company didn’t specify a release date, they revealed the game would be renamed to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, and will include the original Shovel Knight and its two expansions, Plague of Shadows and the upcoming Specter of Torment.

Shovel Knight on PS4, PC and Xbox One will also receive a title update to display the Treasure Trove subtitle. The original campaign will be renamed to Shovel of Hope, and players will have the option to purchase each campaign as separate, standalone titles. Those interested in purchasing Shovel Knight may want to do so now, as the game’s price will increase following the Treasure Trove update.

Local two-player co-op will also be coming to the console and PC versions of Shovel Knight (sorry Vita and 3DS versions), as well as a new Body Swap Mode. A new campaign titled King Knight’s Campaign and a new 4-player battle mode have also been announced for a 2017 release, though the latter unfortunately won’t be coming to the 3DS or Vita versions.
