Shinji Mikami’s ‘Project Zwei’

April 26, 2012

Though he’s been silent for far too long, famed developer Shinji Mikami is finally ready to start talking about his next big game. Known for the likes of Resident Evil, God Hand and Vanquish, Mikami ended a partnership with Platinum Games after the latter title to form Tango Gameworks, a new studio that would later be bought up by Bethesda parent company Zenimax. Since then, his team has been hard at work at new title, that we today learn is known as ‘Project Zwei‘.

Explained over at Andriasang, Project Zwei will mark Mikami’s return to the survivor horror genre, a genre he hasn’t played a part in since Resident Evil 4, or for many strict survival horror fans, the Resident Evil remake a decade ago. Though scarce on details, Mikami commented on confirmation of a survival horror project, stating “I’ve found my focus and once again I’m striving for pure survival horror. I’m being very hands-on to see the quality is there. Rest assured.”

In addition to this, Tango Gameworks has called upon form Mikami staff to work on Project Zwei, including the lead CGI artist for the Resident Evil remake’s environments, who in this instance will be acting as lead environment artist.

The first concept art for Project Zwei can be seen below, and though we know little else about the title, we’ll hopefully learn much more at E3 2012.
