Nintendo Store Update – 30/03/2012

March 30, 2012

In this week’s epic Nintendo Store update, there’s arguably not a lot of strictly Nintendo content on offer at all. With the exception of Mega Man 5 on the Wii Virtual Console, this week is dominated by the release of Game Gear games on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.  Sonic the Hedgehog, Shinobi and Dragon Crystal are all now available for your downloading pleasure – but will you allow yourself to be pleased by them?

Title: Mega Man 5
System: NES (Virtual Console)
Price: 500 Wii Points

Not to be confused with the Game Boy iteration, Mega Man 5 will feel very familiar to fans of the series. Dr Wily is once again up to his old tricks and it’s up to Mega Man to use all of his arsenal to dispose of him. This edition of the Mega Man series sees an upgrade to the Mega Buster, and faithful robohound Rush lending a paw once again when needed.

Title: Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble
System:  Game Gear (Virtual Console)
Price: $7.50

The very first Sonic game to be developed exclusively for the handheld Game Gear console, Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble has players given the choice of platforming through the game with either Tails or the famed blue hedgehog himself.  Each character has their own abilities to use in the palm of your hand, as they encounter the likes of Knuckles, Nack the Weasel and the ever-present Dr Robotnik.

Title: Shinobi
System: Game Gear (Virtual Console)
Price: $6.00

Largely based on the Sega titles of the series, Shinobi nonetheless possesses one key difference: players can switch between characters. At the end of each stage, a brainwashed ninja ally of Joe Musashi’s will appear, and they can be recruited into your party once you successfully defeat them. Each ninja also has their own unique abilities to bring to the table.

Title: Dragon Crystal
System: Game Gear (Virtual Console)
Price: $4.50

A turn-based dungeon crawler at heart, Dragon Crystal involves battling through 30 different areas to find a crystal to lift the curse which has befallen your character. Due to the random generation of levels, expect to die. A lot.
