Nintendo announces closure of Wii, DS online service

February 27, 2014

Nintendo has announced that it will be closing the online service for the Wii and DS systems. The service will close on May 20, 2014.

The service, known as Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, will mean the loss of online services for popular Nintendo titles such as Mario Kart Wii,  Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart DS, Starfox DS and a number of Pokemon and Professor Layton titles. For third-party titles, it will be up to individual publishers to announce affected games.

Features such as the Wii and DS web browsers, Wii Shop Channel, DSi Shop, Wi-Fi Connection Pay & Play and YouTube will continue to work.
