Mass Effect 3: Leviathan + Firefight DLC announced

August 3, 2012

Hot off EA’s summer showcase event, BioWare has announced two new single player downloadable content packs for Mass Effect 3, the first new playable solo content since the game launched earlier this year.

First up is Leviathan, a new adventure set during the events of Mass Effect 3. Rumours of a powerful creature known as ‘Leviathan’, so powerful it can kill a Reaper, send Shepard and co on a mission to uncover just who, or what, Leviathan actually is. Leviathan will include a new system to explore, as well as new areas on the Citadel, two new weapons (T-12 Raider shotgun and M-55 Argus Assault Rifle) and reveal new history surrounding the Reapers.

Leviathan will launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC later this year, priced at $10 or 800 MS points.

The second announcement was the Firefight Weapons Pack. Not unlike smaller content packs for Mass Effect 2, Firefight will add seven weapons to the Mass Effect 3 single player. Five of these can already be found in either the multiplayer mode, or from bonus content, while the other two are completely new. Firefight will be available on 7 August for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, priced at $2 or 160 MS Points.

And as a side note, BioWare briefly touched on the Mass Effect 3 port for the Wii U. To bring new Mass Effect fans up to speed, the Wii U version will include an interactive comic book that  covers events and decisions from both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. The Wii U’s touch pad will be used to display an overhead map of the environment, as well as provide touch icons for instant power use.

Mass Effect 3 for Wii U will be available at the system’s launch, and will include multiplayer content and the Extended Cut DLC on the disk.
