There’s two pieces to this puzzle. Firstly, new banner art on Konami’s official Facebook page, depicting ancient, gothic cathedrals lit against a full moon backdrop. And second, the reveal of a new website: The Dragon Returns, again with the gothic architecture, and a single date of 31/05/2012.

What could it be? We’re pretty sure we know. Not only is Konami preparing to show off Castlevania: Mirror of Fate, for the Nintendo 3DS, at E3 2012, but they’re also going to be announcing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. And that is the return of the dragon.

There’s simply few other games that would fit the bill. Lords of Shadow 2 has been rumoured for many months now, various twitter postings from the dev team practically giving it away. Besides, ‘Dracul’, as in ‘Dracula’, literally means ‘The Dragon’. Kind of paints its own picture, no?

As the date 31/05/2012 falls before E3 2012, Konami could be looking to give the title a formal reveal before the wave of E3 games hits. We’ll find out for sure very soon.
