Introducing Americana Dawn, A Free RPG

March 19, 2012

Fans of retro style RPGs and indie games are sure to get a kick out of this. Americana Dawn is an upcoming freeware JRPG, currently in development by a team in San Francisco, that is set in colonial America and follows the adventures of a man named Rarascau. Well, man would be a bit misleading, he’s actually a member of an alien race called the Keepers. Nice twist. Keepers have a much longer lifespan than your typical human, and this will allow players to quest their way through a large period of American history. Breaking from tradition, the game has no magic system. Instead, the game introduces various classes which are based upon historical military units, such as Militiamen and Dragoons. Dragoons, for example, are mounted cavalry, that will charge off-screen and then return a turn later to deal a huge amount of damage. The game features one-on-one duels, in a style reminiscent of the Suikoden games. Also, you can fight bears, which is a feature that more RPGs should have.

The first trailer for the game has been released, check it out below:

Americana Dawn is scheduled for a release towards the end of the year, but a demo will be released on the game’s website on the 4th of July, due to the significance of the date. You can also support the game’s Kickstarter page, if you’d like to help make the game even better and hopefully allow the developers to make a small profit.
