  • Square Enix is worried about the future of Final Fantasy. Worried enough to form…a committee. As reported by Nova Crystallis, the publishers has formed a “Final Fantasy committee” aimed at overseeing the general direction of the franchise to ensure a standard of quality is met.
  • Blizzcon is on the way, and Blizzard already have two announcements. First, the upcoming Diablo III expansion pack, Reaper of Souls, has been confirmed for PlayStation 4 and will be playable at the event. Secondly, the long rumoured/semi-announced Blizzard themed MOBA has been renamed and kinda re-announced as Heroes of the Storm. They’ve even cut together a cute little announcement trailer. That is, announcing the name change.

  •  Eidos Montreal’s Thief (or as you might know it, Thief 4) has been on the receiving end of rather negative press when it comes to some questionable design choices, given the genre and series history. And it turns out Eidos Montreal is not only listening, but responding to this press. As reported by Eurogamer,  the studio has completely removed the integrated experience points system that was set to drive character skill development. According to Eidos Montreal, the original system would reward players XP based on kills, additional points awarded for stylistic, skill based kills such as headshots. Blasted by fans for missing the point of the series, Eidos Montreal noted that this XP system was encouraging players to avoid sneaking and stealing in favour of killing, leading the title down an unusual direction for the series. And now, wisely, it is gone, with a final word from the studio: “We shouldn’t judge how the player wants to achieve their goal, only reward them for achieving it.”
  • Like a lot of games coming over the next few months, NBA 2K14 wont be limited to current generation hardware. Their will be a next generation port, too. See how it looks in this new trailer.
