Dragon Quest XI Announced for PS4, 3DS and Maybe NX

July 28, 2015

Square Enix held a press conference earlier today focusing on the Dragon Quest franchise. As many had anticipated, the key announcement of this conference was the next main entry in the legendary RPG series; Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time (translated version of Japanese title).

The game has been confirmed to be a traditional single player RPG, rather than the multiplayer-oriented experience that the previous two numbered entries focused on. At this point there is no confirmed release date, though it is said to be part of Dragon Quest‘s 30th anniversary celebration, which takes place next year around May.

However the most interesting bit of information to come out of this announcement are the systems the game is going to launch on. As stated both during the conference and on Square’s official Japanese press release, the game will launch on PS4, 3DS and “is being considered for launch” on Nintendo’s upcoming NX system. This marks the first title for the NX essentially confirmed to be in development, leading a lot of people to speculate whether the system will indeed be launching next year. Fans are also left wondering how similar the PS4 and 3DS versions of the title, however we expect the answers to these questions, and many more, to come in the lead up to Dragon Quest’s 30th anniversary.
