Dishonored 2 DRM for PC revealed on Steam

November 6, 2016

Today Steam had a minor update which revealed the Dishonored 2 DRM that is being used for Windows 10 PC. The DRM Denuvu which has been used in games such as Just Cause 3, Star Wars Battlefront and Rise of the Tomb Raider was added in the sidebar of Dishonored 2 on Steam earlier today.

Denuvu allows players to activate their product five times per day, and while it has caused some controversy and backlash amongst the gaming community due to anger about whether players actually own the product they have purchased, given they are limited as to what they are able to do with it, distributors strongly believe that it is a fantastic DRM anti-tamper solution to piracy, and hope the Dishonored 2 DRM will last for at least the holiday season.

The Denuvu DRM is not foolproof however, with games such as the Limbo successor Inside being cracked within just weeks of its released. Rise of the Tomb Raider was also successfully cracked fairly quickly, and became widespread on illegal downloading websites. It will be interesting to see how quickly the piracy community can act on the Dishonored 2 DRM.

Bethesda released a video spotlighting the main antagonist Corvo Attano at the start of the month. Check it out below:

Dishonored 2 is due to be released on Windows 10 PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 11, 2016.
