Dead Island: Definitive Edition PS4 disc release will only contain first game

May 30, 2016

The upcoming Dead Island: Definitive Edition physical release for PlayStation 4 will only actually contain the first game, publisher Deep Silver recently revealed on Twitter. Dead Island: Riptide and the new endless runner Retro Rampage will require a separate download for PS4 owners.

It should be noted that Retro Rampage won’t come included on either physical release; the Xbox One version will, however, include both of the main games.

“On XB1 it is on the same disc,” The publisher stated in response to a tweet from a fan. “PS4 discs don’t support multiple games, so there Riptide comes as a download code.”

When it was pointed out that many games for the PS4, including Deep Silver’s own Metro: Redux, have contained multiple games on one disc, the publisher replied “”We could’ve worded that better. You need a separate menu, you can’t just put two games on disc the same way as on XB1.”

This means that, feasibly, you could buy a second hand edition of the game on PlayStation 4 and only gain access to one-third of the advertised content. Deep Silver’s justification behind this decision is more than a little dubious as well, considering evidence to the contrary has been clearly seen in other remastered collection releases.

The Austrian release has been confirmed to be a two disc set but for Australian purchasers the only option is to digitally download Riptide.

Due to release in Australia on 31/05, Dead Island: Definitive Edition boasts updated visuals and a complete overhaul of the lighting system for both of the last gen Zombie slaying titles.
