Castle of Illusion to be removed from sale

September 1, 2016

Sega has announced, via Polygon, that Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse will be removed from sale on Xbox Live, PSN and Steam on September 2.

The company revealed that the game would be pulled from sale due to the current publishing arrangement coming to an end. However, those who have already purchased the game, or do so before September 2, will still be able to re-download it on their respective system.

Castle of Illusion is a platform game that was released on the Sega Genesis in 1990. It stars Mickey Mouse who goes on a quest to rescue Minni from the evil witch Mizrabel. In 2013 the game received the remaster treatment on PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac and various mobile platforms.

Interestingly, Castle of Illusion was recently added to the Xbox One backward compatible list. Sounds like it might be the perfect excuse to relive some Disney nostalgia, along with DuckTales: Remastered. It’s currently unknown if the game will be put back up for sale under a different publishing agreement.
