Apple announces iPhone 7, 7 Plus

September 8, 2016

At a media event in San Fransisco overnight, Apple announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus, alongside the Apple Watch Series 2.

The marquee features of the new iPhone are a significantly improved camera, a ‘force-sensitive’ home button that uses haptic feedback, stereo speakers, a new brighter screen and support for wireless headphones through a new ‘W1’ chip. Controversially, the device no longer supports a 3.5mm headphone jack, instead providing an adaptor that plugs into the Lightning port.

For gamers, the big improvement is a new quad-core CPU and significantly faster GPU setup. Called the A10 Fusion, Apple says that the CPU is much more efficient than the one in previous models, which means that battery life should be much better, which will make long Pokémon Go sessions much more tolerable.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available in Australia to pre-order from September 9, with devices shipping from September 16.
