New Games This Week! – Rocket Chainsaw

October 27, 2014

New Games This Week! — Unfortunately this week’s post will have to be a short one, mostly consisting of dates and videos. I’m incredibly snowed under with work, and I’m also really sick too, meaning the creative juices are blocked. Much like my nose.

Oh and playing Sunset Overdrive. That too 😉

SingStar: Ultimate Party

October 29th — PG — PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4.

Sick party -- where was my invite?

Sick party — where was my invite?

SingStar finally returns to our lives with another installment of today’s popular music, as well as some classics. Get ready to sing your way to a glorious victory, or to an epic fail where you insist over and over that your microphone is faulty.

One of the greatest new features (which I hope other games can use in a similar fashion — not singing…) is the ability to use your smartphone as a microphone, via the SingStar app for iOS and Android. This opens up the ability for almost anyone around to play, and means that you are not limited by microphones.

Freedom Wars

October 29th — M — PlayStation Vita.

Bit over the top, don't you think?

Bit over the top, don’t you think?

Exclusive to the PS Vita is this third-person battle for survival, playing as desperate humans just trying to survive. Freedom Wars is an action-packed monster bashing title, with co-op of up to four players via ad-hoc, and up to eight players for some 4 vs 4 action.

Pre-ordering at either major retailed results in receiving the Rescue content pack, including a limited edition costume, two powerful starter weapons, a limited edition sticker set, and a medical supply set.

NBA Live 15

October 30th — G — PlayStation 4, Xbox One.

I'll see you in February, Damian. Let's see how you roll against KD, eh?

The only rival to the NBA 2K series is from the EA Sports brand, and honestly — isn’t that bad. This year’s cover star is Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers.

After NBA Live 14’s impressively abysmal score, I’m hoping NBA Live 15 is able to bring the series back up and be a strong rival once again to the 2K series, as they haven’t really been that great since 04-05.

Also the soundtrack for NBA Live 2K15 is significantly better than NBA 2K15. Just saying.

WWE 2K15

October 30th — M — PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are slated for a November 20th release).

I wonder how much nicer WWE would be if they just smiled? Come on, Orton. Smile.

I wonder how much nicer WWE would be if they just smiled? Come on, Orton. Smile.

Next generation men in tight clothing (or nothing at all..) wrestling each other arrives this week — and in legit 1080p! Great ready for intense sweat detail.

WWE 2K15 is the second title to come from Take-Two, after the takeover from THQ and the WWE series , and continues to further improve and grow within its community, with great success.

Sunset Overdrive

October 30th — MA15+ — Xbox One.

Explosions!

Explosions!

The hybrid love-child of Tony-Hawk, InFamous, Borderlands and GTA is here — Sunset Overdrive is that badass game you’ve been waiting for. A unique gameplay style sets it apart, coupled with some pretty rad-bro graphics, enough fresh constant action for those who get bored quickly, and just the right amount of cheeky not-so-PC dialogue. There is much to do in the game, so for all you achievement and trophy hunters — you’re in luck, as there are collectibles in abundance.

This is definitely one of my top picks for the year.

Pre-ordering at JB Hi-Fi gets you the exclusive Fizzco. Bot outfit and AK-OFF weapon, while pre-ordering at EB Games gets you the OD Wannabe outfit and Head Banger weapon.

Xbox One Special Edition Sunset Overdrive Bundle

October 30th.

This gorgeous limited edition white Xbox One console with Sunset Overdrive is only available at EB Games, and I’m sure will be in high demand — so if you are about to purchase an Xbox One for Sunset Overdrive, make sure you get your mittens on this bundle.

White meat only.

The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series Season 2

October 31st — R18+ — PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC.

"Yes," said Clementine, "I will go to the prom with you."

“Yes,” said Clementine, “I will go to the prom with you.”

Telltale Games have really won the hearts of gamers with their stunning click and point episodic games from the last couple of years. The Walking Dead series has received high-praise, and for good reason. One of the most unique features about the Telltale Games series is the ability to have a completely different experience to your neighbour Bob, as the game is shaped by every single small decision you make. You decide your fate. And if you’ve previously played Season 1 of The Walking Dead, then those actions and decisions made back then, will have influence on what happens in Season 2.

This release is all episodes on disc.

Lords of the Fallen

October 31st — MA15+ — PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC.

There's that mace, armour and shield...

There’s that mace, armour and shield…

If you’ve ever rage-quited or just sat there and cried whilst playing through Darksiders and/or Dark Souls, then have no fear — Lords of the Fallen is for you. Lords of the Fallen is a hack and slash action game where you do not get punished when you die. Refreshing, isn’t it? Throughout the game, there are many save points so that you don’t lose progress. Lords of the Fallen would also be a fantastic starting title for those wanting to get into the genre.

Pre-ordering at JB HiFi gifts you the Lionheart DLC pack containing a mace, armour, and a shield. Wait —what? THAT is the DLC? Do you start naked or something? Sheeeeesh.

That’s it for this week. Let us know what you’ll be picking up, and i’ll be back next Monday post-PAX!
